Smashing HitSize: 45.7 x 61
Materials: Broken glass and paint on a canvas One night, I had a dream. It was of me in the dark and I was on a stage. I had a guitar and for some reason I had smashed it on the ground. Once that happened, I saw shatters of glass fly everywhere. Figuring out how to break the glass worried me the most, but I made sure to be safe. I had most fun making this piece because I found enjoyment in splattering the paint everywhere. |
Screeching BeautifullySize: 61 x 45.7
Materials: Pastels One day, I listened to a friend play the violin. Usually when I hear violins play, the sounds are soft and smooth. When this instrument was being played, the result was rough and high-pitched screeching noises. Overall, the experience was unpleasant. I wanted to portray the experience through defined shapes. The violin is curvy and smooth, while the surroundings are harsh and structured. By doing this, it creates a juxtaposition, giving the piece more drama. |
Colorful BluesSize: 47 x 61
Materials: Recycled Mardi Gras beads and a thin canvas This is an environmental piece and was inspired by my first trip to New Orleans in 2018 during Mari Gras. I could not believe how trashed the streets would get. I had decided then to make an art piece with the numerous beads that were thrown away and left behind. I wanted the colors and image to portray the essence of the city of New Orleans and the energy of Mardi Gras. Since the traditional Mardi Gras colors are so bright, I decided to keep the image simple and allow the colors to speak for themselves. *I am no longer in possession of this piece since I decided to sell it. |
